Jupiter 20 December 2013

Via Flickr:
Two views of Jupiter on the same night just 43 minutes apart but clearly showing the speed of rotation as the Great Red Spot moves out of sight in the right hand image. The right hand image is also a little sharper, reflecting the improved atmosphere at the point when Jupiter was at its highest on the night for the UK.

Both images represent derotated sets of three stacked images consisting of 6,000 frames per image (2,000 each of red, green and blue) a total stack of 18,000 frames per image covering in each case a thirteen minute period.

Equipment used: Basler Ace mono CCD, Xagyl filter wheel with 1.25" Astronomik RGB filters, 2.5X Powermate and 12" f10 Meade LX200 SCT.
