Position: 13h40m18.15s +28d18m21.9s
Type: EW (W Ursae Majoris)
Period: 0.2695671 days
Range: 13.6 to 14.4 (CV)
Notes:
1. Variable number 141 in a list of variable stars for the globular cluster M3. The star lies about 25' WSW of the core of M3. It may or may not be an outlying member of the cluster. Some sources say no (such as VSX), others yes.
2. About 20" north of the variable is the background galaxy 2MASX J13401815+2818395 which may be some 1.2 billion light-years away.
3. In 1994 I made of visual sighting of a transient in the southwestern tip of NGC 5263. Though viewed with a C-8, the object was very apparent with averted vision; in fact, stars to at least 15.1 were seen in M3. To this day, this is the best night I have ever seen from my location in Kansas.
