This beautiful region in the southern sky, surrounding the star R Coronae Australis, is a birth place for new stars. Dense clouds of interstellar dust, seen here reflecting the blue light from the nearby stars, are hiding some of the younger stars from view. This image combines visible-light data with near-infrared data (red) which allows us to see those young stars, still embedded in their dusty birth clouds.
