Working outside the International Space Station on July 12, 2011, NASA astronaut Ron Garan is "standing" 220 miles above the Persian Gulf region. Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are to the west, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman are to the south, and the mountains of Iran are to the east.
