NGC 1512 is a barred spiral galaxy about 30 million light-years away in the constellation Horologium. It is a member of the Dorado Group of galaxies. This image combines near-infrared data from the Digitized Sky Survey with ultraviolet data from the GALEX space telescope. Ultraviolet light comes from young massive stars that are forming in the spiral arms as well as in the ring around the central area. The infrared light comes from older stars, concentrated primarily in the galactic core.
